500 Wow.

August 31, 2008

I am now officially closer to 1000 than I am to 0.

Thank you, you lovely people who sit at a computer watching me take part in one of the nerdiest (but coolest) hobbies known to man.

Here is a thumbs up, to celebrate; (y)

Please just imagine that MSN emotes work here =)

I wish I wrote like that for my School Essays. =/

August 31, 2008

hmm…

Anyway, I’m fairly sure that I have the best video idea I’ve ever had. Look out for it sometime in the next, lets say two weeks. It probably won’t be my next video, but it will be soon.

I might review things more often, that was fun.

Star Wars.

August 31, 2008

To fully appreciate the Star Wars story, I recommend you do some research into the history of the Star Wars universe and then watch the films back to back as I have just done.

This Saga is about Anakin Skywalker, it is the story of his beginnings as a highly force sensitive young boy, through to his training and love for Padme Amidala which is forbidden by the council, his fall to the dark side and the rise of the Empire and his eventual redemption and fulfilling the prophecy that he was to be the one who brought balance to the force.

Although Anakin is who the saga is primarily about, it also has many other characters who’s stories are told. The Emperor for example, it is his story in that we first learn about his roots as a senator for the insignificant planet of Naboo, and we slowly learn of his corrupt side and controlling of events that lead him to become the Chancellor of the Galactic senate, giving him power, but not enough for him. He needs more so he masterminds a plot to start a war, a war which he is controlling from both ends, without the Republic knowing, he plots this from very early on and all along the way uses the Jedi as a decoy, he hires a Jedi to commission a clone army for the republic. It is this war that enables him to stay in office for much longer than his term. Still, he hasn’t got absolute power because he knows that as soon as the war ends, the Jedi will force the power from him. He needs to corrupt Anakin in order to keep this power which he cleverly does by befriending him at a very young age and mentoring him and gaining his trust beyond a level the Jedi have. It is this that enables him to bring about the destruction of the Jedi order and execute Order 66 to kill every Jedi. He again uses the Jedi as a decoy, when he accuses Mace Windu of scaring his face, even though it is the power of the dark side that already did this. The Republic’s mistrust of the Jedi enables Palpatine to form The Imperial Galactic Empire from the remains of the Republic. He remains emperor for years until his eventual demise at the hands of the redeemed Anakin Skywalker.

This story is also about the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda. We see Obi-Wan and Yoda in almost all of the films so they’re a given. But it was Qui-Gon who was the first to discover Anakin’s potential, it was Qui-Gon who watched over him as he trained as a Jedi (we can here his voice as Anakin slaughters the Tusken Raiders in II), it was Qui-Gon who originally learnt to preserve his spirit after death, he teaches this to Yoda and then to Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon effectively provided the means for Anakin’s redemption, if Luke had never been trained by the spirits of Yoda and Obi-Wan, he would not have been able to bring out the good in Vader.

The most powerful scene for me in the entire saga, is when Vader is no longer Vader, his pain at seeing a loved one being hurt causes the good in him to resurface after years trapped beneath the veil of the Dark side. This is the Vader we last saw who dearly loved Padme. It was the Emperor’s mistake here, he should have remembered that what initially drew Anakin to the dark side was a need to save his loved ones. Hurting Luke only forced Vader to remember this need to save loved ones and draw out Anakin Skywalker.

In order of preference this is how I would place the movies;

  1. Return Of The Jedi 10/10
  2. A New Hope 9.5/10
  3. Revenge Of The Sith 9/10
  4. The Phantom Menace 8/10
  5. The Empire Strikes Back 8/10
  6. Attack Of The Clones 4/10

Whilst the prequel trilogy is not as good as the original trilogy, it is not as bad as the critics seem to think, it is a key part of the story, and if anything it makes the original trilogy better because we are able to understand the stories of these characters.

This may be the end of the Star Wars Saga, but it is by no means the end of the Star Wars Story which spans thousands of millenia, from before the time of the Old Republic until long after the New Republic created after the fall of the Empire. This is a universe, we are just treated to the most Epic tale on screen.

Episode VI

August 31, 2008

Episode VI, exceeded expectations. I can say it is my possibly my favourite. Thats about all I can say about it. It was a bit hard to follow at the beggining, but that was ok, it was meant to be as we weren’t supposed to learn what Luke’s plan was until it was fully excecuted.

The death of Yoda was a bit underplayed considering how much of an amazingly important character he has been for not only the Star Wars saga, but also the 900 years he was alive.

There’s not much else I can say about this movie without bringing the rest of the saga into it, as you need to have seen the entire saga back to back to fully appreciate this story.

Stand By For Episode VI.

In the meantime, listen to my new found use for my death note.

I don’t know if I mentioned before but I bought a Death Note Notebook like the on from the Death Note series of anime and manga. I decided that I’m going to put it beside my bed and use it to record my dreams as soon as I wake up every day so I don’t forget them. =]

And yeah, Episode VI review will be coming tonight :O

Episode V

August 30, 2008

Well, I’ve shocked myself. I thought I wouldn’t like this one as much, I was wrong and I’d place it a very close third against III. There isn’t that much I can say about this one though, it kind of pisses me off that Luke Skywalker trained to be a Jedi for about a day, yet he is able to spar effectively against Darth Vader, whom received training as a Jedi for 13 years, then another 20 years or so of Sith training.

Episode IV

August 29, 2008

Ok, I change my mind, this is my favourite film in the series.

The best scene has to be when Obi Wan is saying goodbye to Luke;
“Remember, the force will be with you, always.”
How touching, WAIT. What the fuck? It’s meant to be “may the force be with you.” Even Han Solo knows that :o
Ok, these films were made first, but still Obi Wan says “may the force be with you” tonnes in the prequel trilogy, so, by canon he knows the correct phrase. He’s just turned into a senile old fool.

Also, Han Solo, a parsec is 3.3 Lightyears, not a measure of time.

Overall, best star wars film yet.

Episode III

August 29, 2008

Definitely my favourite of the prequel trilogy, possibly the whole saga. Anakin has learnt to act, and we are treated to some very heartbreaking scenes involving him and padme and him and Obi-Wan. I love the lightsabre duel between Anakin as Darth Vader and Obi-Wan towards the climax of the film, I think we can really feel the loss of hope and the feeling of love from Obi-Wan when he gives Anakin the “You were the chosen one, You were my brother speech.”

I do have one major annoyance with not just this movie, but the entire prequel trilogy, why do the villains need lightsabre gimmicks all the fucking time? Episode I- Darth Maul- Double Bladed Lightsabre, Episode II- Count Dooku Vs Anakin, Anakin uses 2 lightsabres and Dooku has a weird shaped hilt, Episode III- General Grievous uses FOUR, FOUR FUCKING LIGHTSABRES, WHY? It’s just become a gimmick, he didn’t even use one of them.

I found my self wishing Anakin to relinquish the Dark side, even though I knew he wouldn’t and would ultimately become Darth Vader in the black suit.

One more tiny thing that annoyed me, Did we really need to discover how the emperor/sidious/palpatine became disfigured? I just assumed it was because he was old, we didn’t really need to see him become drained during the duel with Mace Windu. Also, why did we need a chewbacca cameo? Isn’t it just a big fucking coincidence.

Also, I love seeing how the Jedi Star Fighters have evolved into a more TIE Fighter-esque model. And is it me, or do the clone troopers have an almost X-Wing-esque fighters?

Anyways, this was an excellent film, and up until now it has been my favourite Star Wars film overall, lets just see what happens after I watch the original trilogy.

Episode II

August 29, 2008

For the majority of the film, it was shit. Poor editing, it looked as though it had been done on Windows Movie Maker, the scene transitions were terrible and the smaller cuts were jumpy as a whore in a bed of millionaires. Although, after the terrible arena monster fight scene thing, when the Jedi arrived, it became not shit, but mediocrely good. One thing that does piss me off, is how Anakin Skywalker didn’t even ask the Lars if he could take C3PO, he just does. Also, Anakin’s acting was terrible, absolutely terrible.

One thing I really liked, was the subtle use of Darth Vader’s theme from the original trilogy at certain points such as Anakin’s realization of his slaughter of the Tusken Raiders and at the end when the clone army is standing before Palpatine. Especially since these 3 movies are supposed to be telling the tale of Anakin’s decent into becoming Lord Vader and Palpatine’s transformation of Chancellor of the Republic into Emperor.

Episode Three next, I have high hopes.

Episode I

August 29, 2008

Despite what the critics say, I thought it was brilliant. The story was fantastic, the choreography was amazing and this movie has the best lightsabre duel of the whole series.

I liked how we saw the beggining of Anakin’s feelings for Padme, which is fairly essential because they do need to do each other so we can get Luke and Leia.

Thats pretty much all I can say, I tried to make these reviews at least 100 words long but, I failed on this one.
